Raven
I am the raven with my wings of night
I am the bane of the Demetan light
Let the sky grow black and the children cry
With the fall of the wall of Valinor Kai
I am the raven, kin of screams
I am the ravager of the dream
Let the sun go out and the rivers run dry
For I come with the fall of Valinor Kai
Who am I? I fear I have changed
Darkest thoughts and urges so strange
All my goals somehow rearranged
Where my people now?
Dark wings beat in rooms of my mind
Past ambitions left far behind
All shall tremble before my kind
Our day shall dawn soon.
Tensions rise and hot blood runs fast
Soon the fatal die will be cast
This great wall was not built to last
My kin will be free
Those who my old throne protected
Fought those who my claim rejected
With the clans their fates connected
Gratitude's a lie
Law-bound soulless conquer my land
Force the bishop to play his hand
Seal the circle, make your last stand
Bring the curtain down
Human, fae or Nosta Ka lord
All shall perish before my sword
Rue the day you dropped the great ward
No-one will be spared
Lightbringer's get stands before me
Fool who lacks the courage to flee
Thinks at last a hero to be
His death shall be hard
One mistake; miscalculation
Piercing pain and cold sensation
Fall before my cast-off nation
How was I so wrong?
I am the raven with my wings of night
Brought to my knees by a Demetan knight
See my peoples watch and yet none cry
For the tears were all shed after Valinor Kai
I am the raven; hear my screams
Die with the waking of the dream
For our time is come but our end is nigh
And I fall as the wall of Valinor Kai
Raven, Fergal O'Brien
A commission from a friend to draw a song he had written in order to give it as a gift. The song itself takes its inspiration from a story that is (in a nutshell) about a king who was possessed by a demon long trapped behind a barrier called the Valinor Kai. Under its influence, the king turned on his people. The demon was ripped from him by a young knight and the king, feeling now all the grief and guilt of his past actions, was brought low.
Drawn on stiff cream coloured paper. The background is a silhouette of a raven coloured with diluted black ink and edged in a diluted red/purple mix. The writing on the background is red ink, and the foreground is written in black ink.
